Elmwood Park Zoo Welcome Center

The Elwood Park Zoo celebrated it’s 100th anniversary with the opening of a new welcome center. Christensen Lighting created an immersive exhibition space by integrating lighting into almost every element in the space.

To incorporate the height of the space, we worked with the design team to create a series of floating fabric panels with custom lighting. This allowed us to paint the open space above the exhibit with the three primary colors of the exhibit design. These colors slowly morph and changes throughout the space bring subtle motion and soft colored light throughout the space.

All graphic elements are rear lit with tunable white light to be able to match the color temperature of the content.   Tall intro panel light boxes are rear-lit with zoned tunable white lighting fixtures to balance the different elements of the expansive graphics.

Three animal habitats are illuminated with powerful LED theatrical lights to simulate outdoor lighting conditions for the inhabitants.
